WMN a Catalyst to Success
There is nothing to compare with the disorientation that one experiences as a political refugee. I was full of conflicting feelings as I stepped on the plane that was to bring me to the States. I experienced overwhelming grief that I might never see my parents or country again and relief and gratitude that I had finally was escaping the terrorists who were looking for me.
My education and professional experience were worthless, as I didn't speak English. I worked days cleaning houses and nights cleaning offices. Eventually through a friend, I found a position in Connecticut as a nanny. While the family was truly lovely, they made no effort to help me move on with my life. Then one day a friend invited me to a workshop at the Women's Mentoring Network.
That was the turning point of a new life for me. Today, I successfully own my own business and my own home. Although, I have never been able to return to my country, my parents have come to be with me. I am so grateful for the guidance and support of friends and community generated through my association with WMN.
I am living the American dream because you cared enough to support Women's Mentoring Network. Thank you.
